God didn’t say the Israelites should avoid being productive or making a profit. What He did say is that they should also consider those on the fringes of society in the process. The marginalised and vulnerable. A modern-day equivalent might be a supermarket that gives its leftovers to a homeless shelter, or a hairdresser who provides free haircuts to refugee families in his town. 

Ask God: ‘What does it mean for me not to reap to the edges of my field, not to go over my vineyard a second time?’
