Three Expressions of Believing Prayer

A. Quiet confidence in God’s Word. (Luke 7:6-9)

This means taking God at His Word. “God said it. I believe it. That settles it.” This is the kind of faith that accepts the trustworthiness of God’s Word regardless of the circumstances.

B. Persistence in asking despite the odds. (Luke 18:2-8)

Repeatedly asking God to do something for us is sometimes regarded as being doubtful that God has already heard. Or Christians can look at it as being stubborn or demanding. But in the case of pressing troubles or delayed response, persistence in seeking God’s provision is the best expression of faith. Non-faith in this situation would rather turn to what is humanly accessible, relying on one’s ability to come up with a solution, instead of waiting on God’s faithfulness.

C. Submission to God’s will. (Matthew 26:38,39)

Many sincere but misguided believers insist that the real expression of faith is simply professing that you have already received what you asked for. If this is true, then Jesus did not have perfect faith when he prayed in Gethsemane. On the contrary, Jesus demonstrated his perfect faith by affirming His submission to the will of His Father, believing in the Father’s love, and that the Father’s will is always the best, and He will enjoy it after He has suffered the agony of His suffering. Perfect faith is not afraid of suffering, because it is confident that God’s grace is sufficient in every circumstance.
