Go: A 40-Day Journey To The Never Reached

DAY 5 OF 40

Every Minute Counts

By: Timothy Schmidt

Sunday morning, grieving women gathered around the tomb. There they met an angel, proclaiming Christ was risen! He instructed:

“Go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead” (Matthew 28:7, ESV).

They “departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples” (v. 8). Fear and joy multiplied when Jesus met them. As they worshiped, he reiterated: go and tell (v. 9).

This directive is for all believers. The women immediately obeyed, they gave it priority.

What about us? Do we “go quickly?” Or, do we commit but never go? Do we lack the passion of those first evangelists? The command, go quickly, addresses both pace and priority.

The need for urgency and priority is clearest when someone is dying. When an unsaved loved one lays dying, people will ask their pastor to go and tell. They don’t want me to go talk about our church; our building program or our new bus. No, they want me to share one thing, the gospel of Jesus Christ. In fact, they count on me to do so. Quickly!

Every day 100,000 people die. Many without Christ. The urgency to go quickly is demonstrated by a missionary testimony from Hardiwar, India, at the Ganges River. Every year, millions of Hindus bathe in the Ganges. They seek forgiveness by washing here.

A missionary noticed a young woman pounding her chest, weeping uncontrollably. “Why are you weeping?” he asked. She replied, “My husband is too sick to work. I’ve given my best offering to Goddess Ganges—my six-month-old baby. I just threw him into the river.”

The stunned missionary shared that God gave his only Son for her forgiveness. He insisted God loved her intensely. Drying her tears she gazed at him. “I’d never heard this,” she said sadly. “If you’d come half an hour sooner. I wouldn’t have killed my child. Why didn’t you come sooner?”

Hear Christ’s call to go quickly and tell. Every minute counts.

Go Quickly!

Don’t delay! God has put that burden on your heart for a reason. Pray! Give! Go! Speak! Whatever God has called you to do today, do it today.
