Walking With Jesus

DAY 29 OF 40

Become a Fruit-Bearer

The gifts of God are freely given to us and cannot be earned. We receive them only by God‘s grace. If our character is to become Christ-like, we also need to bear fruit. The fruit of our lives are not given, but grown, just like the fruit of a tree.

God wants us to be mature believers. Because there is so much to learn about God and His ways, we will never be able to say that we have arrived. We need to remain humble and teachable.

Dead works are works done outside of Jesus. Many times they can be good works, but they are not from or inspired by God. These works are things we do in our own strength, independent of God. We try to impress God with our good works.

Reflection questions (write your answers in a journal):

  • What will this fruit be known for? (see John 15:16)

  • What is the mark of a mature believer according to Hebrews 5:13-14?

  • What are three areas where you still do good works independent of God?

Action:

Look at the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22) and indicate your three strongest and three weakest fruits.
