Wait

They say that we are in a rat race, running all the time. I can connect with this, living in Mumbai. This city does not sleep. It just keeps moving and time goes on so fast. With that kind of speed it is not surprising that people end up being tired and worn out. But the pressure to work, earn, and perform just keeps them on their toes! The sad fact however, is that though we are in a rat race, we could end up being rats! (not a great feeling though, right??)

Isaiah the prophet would have experienced waiting in the presence of God for him to be able to write these beautiful verses in chapter 40:31—those who wait. That’s our problem. In our society today, we don’t understand the word “wait”!  Wait does not have a positive connotation to it now. Earlier, we could wait. We could wait for a bus or a train, and even if they were not on time we didn’t mind waiting!  Now, we can’t wait. Customers can’t wait, employees can’t wait. Everyone wants everything in an instant! While turnaround times have become much faster than what it was a few years ago, this comes at a price. 

People are not able to work in their areas of strength all the time because of this constant pressure to perform and deliver!

So the prophet seems to have cracked the code – WAIT! Yes, we need to slow down. We need to wait in God’s presence because He has promised to renew our strength like that of the eagle's when we wait on Him. 

Now the beauty of the eagle is the fact that apart from being the King of the Air and being powerful, tenacious, and a high flyer, it takes a break from its routine life, especially around the time of its middle age. It is said the eagle gets into a time of isolation and drops everything in its body that it does not require until fresh feathers, talons, beak, and its eyesight is regained, or rather renewed.

You may be in a situation of being drained and washed down, almost fainting! But be of good cheer. Wait on the Lord and He will renew your strength. Spend time reading His word, talking to Him, listening to Him and see how your drained strength  comes back—not to the same level—but to a much higher and better level than ever before. God keeps His word! – Wait!
