These verses were popularized by the song, TURN, TURN, TURN, first recorded in 1962, but made popular by the group The Byrds in 1965. It’s been covered as many as a dozen times by various artists over the years.
Today, try to just enjoy reading the words of the scripture as if it were a great poem. It’s so much more than that, but if we were to encounter this in a collection of poems by one of the great poets, it would be mesmerizing.
Perhaps that is why it became such a hit, reaching all the way to #1 on the Billboard charts. It was something of an anthem to a group of people living in difficult and dangerous times in the US. Things were rapidly changing, and the country was amid a controversial war. Perhaps if someone were to record a newer version today, it might speak again to a whole new generation.
