Visual Journaling Your Goals With Scripture

DAY 4 OF 7

Welcome back! I'm so glad you're a part of this 7-day experience of visual journaling your goals! Today is day four and all about developing your artistic goals with the Holy Spirit.

One of my favorite scriptures around developing your artistic goals is in Exodus 31:1-5 where the Bible describes a guy named Bezalel. He was the artisan that God selected through Moses to build the Tabernacle. Here's what it says about ole Bez...

Then the Lord said to Moses, “See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills—to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts.

Are you getting the picture? Bezalel wasn't just talented and he also wasn't just passionate for God with no artistic skill. He was what I call both "filled and skilled."

You see, to thrive as an artist in God's Kingdom it's not enough just to have passion for Him, vision for what could be, and dreams of all that you desire to accomplish as an artist. The empowering grace of God that comes through the infilling of the Holy Spirit will always inspire you to develop and pursue the skills necessary to operate your gift in excellence.

At the same time, having incredible artistic skills without the infilling of the Holy Spirit only leads to boredom, because there's no life in what you do. You see, the more you intentionally expand your artistic skills, the more you make room for the Holy Spirit to move through your work. That's exciting!

As you think about your goals for your artistic life this year, ask the Lord what skills you're to be developing. What new challenges lay ahead? What new projects await? Dream with God and expand your capacity this year!

Take time to meditate on the scripture for today and then ask the Lord to show you His heart for your artistic expression and creativity.

Just like yesterday, grab your sketchpad, notebook or journal and take time to doodle around and over what you’ve written with paint, markers or colored pencils. Celebrate with color! Enhance key words that stand out to you as anchors by prayerfully going back and circling the ones that resonate most with you.

When you're finished, share your journal with a friend or on social media.
