First Things First

DAY 19 OF 21

Prayer & Sabbath

Creating a regular prayer habit in your life is so important because prayer is how we communicate with God. Through prayer, you can bring your thoughts, worries, requests, and worship to God. Prayer is a connection line between God and His children. When you pray regularly, you stay connected to God, open yourself up to hear His voice, and grow in your spiritual health.

The word “sabbath” means to stop or cease. It’s meant to be a time that is set aside for you to rest. God commands His people to take a regular time to rest (Exodus 20:8-11). Rest is important to our physical bodies and to our spiritual bodies. When we rest, we give God an opportunity to provide for us spiritually. In rest, we are trusting that God can take care of and provide for us. A regular habit of rest is not an excuse to not work and to be lazy; it’s a time for us to stop and reflect on how God has been with us as we work. Rest gives us an opportunity to rest and be refreshed.

Prayer and sabbath are healthy habits for our physical and spiritual bodies. Through these habits, we get connected to God and refreshed for the time to come.

Action Step: What does prayer look like in your life? How can you develop a consistent habit of prayer in your life? Schedule some time to rest and reflect on what God has done for you over the past week.
