DAY 12 OF 21

Quiet Time

You may have heard the phrase “quiet time” used when people are talking about the time that they set aside to be with the Lord. Daily quiet times are very important in the Christian life because it’s a great time to practice reading the Bible, prayer and meditation, and quiet and solitude without distractions. Spending regular time with the Lord strengthens your heart, mind, body, and spirit. Just as in any relationship, time spent together with God helps you to get to know Him and to learn to hear His voice. And God wants to spend time with you! He enjoys being with you because He loves you, He likes you and He wants to be in your life.

Your quiet time does not have be a regimented program. You can determine the length of time, what you study, and how you listen. The important thing is to stay diligent and consistent in your time with the Lord. Here are some steps to help guide your quiet time:

  1. Quiet your mind. Remove all of the busy thoughts from your mind that distract you from the Lord.

  2. Focus your mind. You can do this through mediation and by listening to worship music. Worship helps us focus on God when we meet with Him.

  3. Pray your mind. We were not designed to carry burdens. We were designed to cast or throw them on the Lord. Prayer is an opportunity for us to tell God what is going on in our lives and to give our cares over to Him.

  4. Renew your mind. Read the Bible in a version you can understand. God understands your heart and desires for you to share it with Him.

Action Step: Practice setting aside a time each day to spend time with God. If you are not used to it, start with a small amount of time (5-10 minutes) and work your way up to more time. Remember that it’s not about the amount of time, it’s about connecting with God on a daily basis.
