DAY 27 OF 30

Devotional: Our Father Who Guides and Communicates

The promise of the Holy Spirit comes from the Father and Jesus baptizes us in the Holy Spirit when we ask Him (John 4:24, 1 Corinthians 2:14, 2 Corinthians 4:6).

The Holy Spirit is referred to as the seven-fold spirit (Isaiah 11:2).

  • Counsel - Wisdom for specific situations

  • Might - Physical or military might

  • Fear of the Lord - Awe of who God is

  • Wisdom - Knowledge rightly applied

  • Revelation - Supernaturally received knowledge

  • Knowledge - To know God’s will

  • Spirit of the Lord - The prophetic

God wants us to have a witness in our spirit that we are sons and He wants us to hear His voice. The voice of our Father will establish authority in our lives as sons and daughters. We must learn to hear God’s voice for ourselves, before we listen to sermons, read Christian books or watch television. One of the most precious things in our relationship with God is the fact that we can hear His voice (Matthew 4:4, John 10:1-30).

Some Christians are always afraid that they are going to miss God or that they are destined for failure. Remember that God never motivates us through fear or confusion. Our Dad is more excited and eager for us to hear His voice than we are. There are certain things which flesh and blood cannot reveal to us. We need revelation knowledge from God (Matthew 16:16-18).

Testimony:

Once we had to cross a border checkpoint in Angola. Half of the policemen on duty were drunk when we arrived and they made things very difficult for us. They wanted a bribe, which we were not prepared to pay. After half an hour of arguing, we were not getting anywhere. We began to pray and the Lord told us to go back and pray where they could not see us. After an hour of prayer, the Lord told us to return to the checkpoint. The amazing thing was when we arrived there the same people came out and greeted us. They did not seem to recognize us, and let us through!

Reflective questions:

  1. Do you think you hear God’s voice? Explain how He speaks to you.

  2. What has God been saying to you in the past two weeks?
