DAY 22 OF 30

Devotional: The Purpose and Commission of Our Father

In Matthew 28:18-20 we read of the Great Commission in Luke 10: 1-2 we read of the appointing of the 70 who Jesus sent out two by two. Scripture is clear that God desires for all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). We have been called to represent our Father here on earth. We can walk in His delegated authority. This does not imply physical power, but something powerful happens when we ask in the Name of Jesus according to the will of our Father (Matthew 21:21-22, Luke 10:19).

Our main purpose here on earth is to glorify God, to represent Christ to the world and to share the good news with others. When being obedient to the Great Commission, our motivation must be from His compassion for the lost and love for His people. We should love people even if they reject us and God.

Testimony:

I had the privilege to lead a mission team to Karachi in Pakistan, one of the most dangerous cities in the world. We went to visit a local community project and as we were sitting in the meeting, the Lord showed me a picture of a red vehicle with a gunman in. I immediately recognized that our lives were in danger and told the team that we must get out of the area. We then got into vehicles and drove off and as we were driving, we passed this red vehicle on a highway. It had about 8 gunmen on and we were protected by a barrier on the highway. The Lord saved our lives that day.

Reflective questions:

  1. Read Luke 10:1-2. What did He do with the 70 before He sent them? What was the problem with the harvest?

  2. Read James 1:27. What do you think it means to have “pure religion”?

  3. Make a list of six people who do not know the Lord. Spend some time today praying for them.
