DAY 17 OF 30

Devotional: The Justice and Righteousness of Our Father

God is righteous and just. He will always do what is right and He will never be unfair. In the end, not even the devil will be able to say that God was unfair. God always acts in perfect harmony with His nature (Psalm 119:137, Deuteronomy 32:4, Isaiah 61:8). God’s righteousness is seen in Jesus Christ. It is not found in holy living, a moral code, doing good or even the Ten Commandments (1 Corinthians 1:30, 2 Corinthians 5:21). Man will never become righteous through observing a moral or religious law (Romans 7:18-23).

Jesus came to fulfil the law. When the Bible talks about becoming righteous it is like receiving a transfer from someone else’s bank account into yours. The righteousness of Christ is imputed (transferred) to us (Romans 8:3-4).

Testimony:

There was a time when I felt unworthy when I spent time with God and I would fall into self-pity. Then God showed me that I have become righteous before Him and that He has placed immense worth on me through the blood of Jesus. When I realized I have a right standing before God, it became much easier to come to Him. I know I do not come to Him based on my own works, feelings or background.

Reflective question:

  • Do you see yourself as righteous before God? Think about why you do or do not.
