We are family

There are thousands of babies being born in hospitals every single day. These hospitals are equipped with doctors and nurses who have been trained. The rooms are air-conditioned and comfortable for the Moms who are giving birth.

Jesus was not born in a hospital, with air-conditioning and trained professionals. Instead, he was born in the humblest of ways. He was born in a barn with donkeys, goats, and sheep. When he was born, his family did not have a lot of money, and they were in the lowest social class at that point in history. 

His way of coming to the Earth was one to demonstrate what his life would look like. He would go on to be a bridge for all different types of people, rich and poor. The marginalized. Jew and Gentile. Every group represented in society. 

When Jesus came, social status would not be important to him. It didn’t matter how much money you had. It didn’t matter what kind of family you grew up in. Jesus broke down the wall, “For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility.”

Everyone is welcome into God’s family. It doesn’t matter where you came from or what people have said about you. Jesus embraces you where you are. He unites us all amongst the separation. He gives us peace with each other because we are all in his family. 

Just because Jesus was born in a barn with a family that didn’t have much, it didn't mean they were forgotten by God. On the contrary, they ended up having the greatest gift of all. In the end, it did not stop Jesus from changing the world. He knew his worth in God.
