All Things New  

Thoughts on the Passage

Three phrases:

“I saw a new heaven and a new earth”.

“Behold I am making all things new”.

“It is done!”.

They describe this picture in our heavenly art gallery. God has prepared the Bride, God has removed sin and evil, and now God creates a new heaven and earth for His Bride. We looked at the first two already, so now God opens our understanding to the new heaven and earth. 

When God does new things, it is not just a new toy that looks like the old worn out one – it is NEW. We catch a little glimpse of this when we look at how we are a new creation when Jesus saved and transformed our hearts. We understand it a little when we think of rivers in the desert – and the desert once barren, bursting with life.

There are many new things. A place where rivers flow but there is no sea. God dwells in the midst of His children. A place where there is no mourning, death, tears, or pain. A place where no evil can come [Note: God is not saying that there are no people who once did evil – that would exclude all of us – but it is a place where there is no evil that violated His holy law].

Finally, God tells John to write this down – it is a faithful Word from God. God is faithful to all His promises. There is no precondition to this promise. God will make it happen. God will see it through. Write it down. Take that promise to the bank and cash it in at any time. It will happen.

Prayer

Father, I love new things. New things are not just an updated version of old things. They do new things. They open up new doors of creativity. They give new life. They take us new places. I can hardly wait for this new heaven and earth. I cannot imagine the treasures that You have hidden in it. I cannot imagine that the new treasures hidden could possibly be better than the ones You in in this world – but I know that they will be because You promise new things. Father, I also want to love the new things that can be experienced here on this earth as well – there is still so much that You have in store for us here. So today, give me eyes to see something new… and remind me of the amazing new future heaven will bring. In Jesus Name, Amen.
