ANIMATED BIBLE - Tower Of Babel

DAY 3 OF 3

Take a Lesson

In the Tower of Babel account God is helping his people to understand how so many nations, peoples and languages came about. He was also teaching them the origin of their archetypal enemy – Babylon. Since everything that was written in the past was written to teach us (Romans 15:4) we also can learn from this fascinating story. With Nimrod and his band’s fateful decision to leave God out of their lives and societal blueprint, God injected himself into the situation (Genesis 11:5-6). God schooled Nimrod and his followers (and us as well) in an important lesson.

God knew that they could do much evil working collectively (Genesis 11:6).  God, also seeing ahead through human history, knew the evil that would proceed from this city. In fact, many of the cities Nimrod established created trouble for the Israelites. Babylon, under King Nebuchadnezzar, was also the city which destroyed Jerusalem and took the Jews into exile for seventy tears.

When the people had one language, they achieved much quickly – even without today’s modern machinery. So God did two things – he confused - and he scattered (Genesis 11:8-9). People speaking the same language began to group together and eventually moved on as God had commanded in the first place. The language change decreased corporate productivity and diluted their technology base, temporarily halting the Satanic scheme.

With translation software and the advent of AI, language is not as much of a barrier as it used to be, and linguistic lines are somewhat beginning to blur and fall. The rebellion at Babel also seems to be happening once again. Without cultural and speech barriers, man is rising up. God’s words, “And nothing that they propose to do will be impossible for them” seem to be ringing true as we see deep space exploration, the decoding of the human genome and new computer technologies. Maybe this is one reason wickedness seems to be increasing at such a dizzying pace. We are accomplishing more, but we are trying to “make a name for ourselves.” Man, and his achievements, seem to be idolized in mainstream culture where we hear little of God and his commands.

Babylon, as so often portrayed in the Bible, is associated with wealth and wickedness, as well as an idolatrous political and religious world system.  In the last days Babylon will be finally and totally destroyed by God. God tells his people to “come out of Babylon” (Revelation 18:4).

Let’s pack our bags and head out to the New Jerusalem (Revelation 21:2-5).
