ANIMATED BIBLE - Tower Of Babel

DAY 1 OF 3

 United in Rebellion

One of the interesting facts about rebellion is how rebels can quickly become united in their hatred of God, God’s Word or God’s people. Rebels are easy to spot and sadly – very easy to follow, as in the case of Nimrod (Genesis 11:1-9).

The Bible records a time when almost the entire civilized world was united in their effrontery towards God. They had the power. They were united in language. They had a beautiful plain in which to settle and build a good life. But there was only one problem. God had commanded them to do something else. And that something else was to spread throughout the whole earth and to be fruitful and multiply. He wanted the earth settled and harnessed for good.

God had clearly commanded Noah (Genesis 9:1) and his descendants to be fruitful and multiply throughout the whole earth. He had not put any prohibitions on where to not go – only just do not stay in just one place.

But with Noah off the scene the new sheriff in town, Nimrod used his leadership skills and standing to unite everyone in rebellion against God’s clear command to settle the whole earth. Their response and strategy is recorded in (Genesis 11:3-4). Their building plan included making hard, durable bricks to make a lasting structure, one that would reach into the skies towards God himself. They had no intention to obey God’s instructions (Genesis 11:1-4).

Enemies also banded together on one of the darkest days of history when God was put on trial. A Roman governor, Pontius Pilate, trying to get rid himself of a political problem, sent Jesus Christ to a nearby Jewish governor named Herod (Luke 23:11-12) to pass judgment. Even though they had previously been enemies, the two leaders became friends – and united in their disdain for Jesus Christ. It is natural for rebels to become united in their hatred toward God and His plan.

Look at your friends and social groups. Your work groups. Those you have close relationships with. Are any of them in rebellion against God? If so be careful about aligning with them on any close levels. Witness to and love them – yes. Allow them to influence (even infect) you with their rebellious attitude – not so much.

You don’t have to look hard in mass media to see the Nimrods. Rebels using their strength, wealth or influence to lead groups of people away from obeying what God has commanded. Nimrod failed then, and modern-day Nimrods will ultimately crash and burn.
