BOLD BELIEF Abram was middle-aged, prosperous, and settled. Imagine the faith it required to leave his home, his clan, and his comfortable lifestyle and travel to a completely unknown destination! In Abram's day, this was simply unheard of. Only fugitives, the poverty-stricken, or outcasts would leave their ancestral land. While we may not be asked to make such a dramatic relocation, God sometimes asks us to depart from our culture in a different way by adopting a godly, rather than secular, perspective as we raise our children. This may result in goals and values that contrast sharply with our extended family or close friends. Our obedience may cause us to be criticized or ostracized even in Christian circles. Where is God calling you to trust Him and depart from worldly parenting practices? Do you have attitudes about sports, academics, or success that you need to leave behind so that you can embark on a radically different path that glorifies God? Ask God to reveal where you need to be bold in your parenting.
