New Beginnings are Possible

Reading: Ezekiel 37:1-14

Key Verse: “This is what the Sovereign Lord says; Come from the four winds O breath and breathe into these slain, that they may live” v.9

Ezekiel was a prophet around the time of the captivity of God’s people to exile in Babylon. It was as if the nation had died and all hope for the future extinguished. In the midst of this calamity of death, destruction and despair, God gave Ezekiel a vision.

Ezekiel was shown an open graveyard of skeletal bones and asked the question, “Can these bones live?” Ezekiel’s response shows true wisdom and faith: “O Sovereign Lord, you alone know”. He recognised that although things were impossible for man, they were still possible for God. Both the angel sent to Mary (Luke1:37) and Jesus Himself repeated this spiritually dynamic truth (Mark 10:27). Ezekiel prophesied the “dead” people of God dispersed around the Middle East would come to life again and re-inhabit the land God had promised them.

Therefore in whatever position you find yourself, even if your dreams are dead and all hope for the future has disappeared, realise that God is even greater than your dead dreams and New Beginnings are possible. It may not be the future you had envisaged but the God of Hope has “plans to prosper you by giving you hope and a future” Jer.29:11

Prayer: Father, I thank You that you are a God of Hope and can give me a New Beginning
