Noah’s New Life
Reading: Gen.8:13-22
Key Verse: “By the first day of the first month of Noah’s six hundred and first year, the water had dried up from the earth. Noah then removed the covering from the ark and saw that the surface of the earth was dry” v.13
Today we begin a series of daily readings which contain the phrase “first day of the first month”. In today’s Key Verse that phrase signified the end of God’s judgement represented by the flood and the beginning of Noah’s new life on earth. The story of Noah and the flood is in some way symbolic of us being spared God’s judgement because as Noah was saved from judgement in the ark, so we are saved in Christ. This is explained in 1 Peter 3:18-22 which emphasises not just judgement but also the new life we have in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Noah was not only spared from God’s judgement in the ark, but he was then given the opportunity to live a new righteous life on a cleansed earth. On the first day of the first month the water had dried up and a new life could begin. Now we are in Christ, judgement of sins is past and we can begin a new life starting from a position where we are cleansed, whole and guilt free before God to explore all the new opportunities He has for us.
Prayer: Lord, thank You that a new life awaits me full of new opportunities
