DAY 323 OF 366

Overcoming Through Praise

Reading: 2 Chron.20: 20-26

Key Verse: “As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated” verse 22

The people of Ammon and Moab invaded Judah to kill God’s people, take their territory and steal their possessions. Jesus revealed that we too are under attack by a thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). The world often seeks to ridicule our faith and destroy our relationship with God. This may be through the media, personal contacts or even state sponsored persecution. Around 200 AD the early Christian father, Tertullian, observed that, “the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church”. Even today many of our Christian brothers and sisters in other lands experience similar persecution.

How can we overcome setbacks and attacks upon us? One way is through praise. It was as the people praised that God intervened on their behalf. When Paul and Silas were beaten “black and blue” ” and imprisoned in chains, their prayers and worship initiated a supernatural earthquake which brought about their release and salvation of the jailer’s family (Acts 16:22-34).

It is said that Christian martyrdom was abolished in the Coliseum because it was no fun for the crowd watching believers singing praises to God even as they died. They overcame fear and culture by their praise! So can we!

Prayer: Praise the Lord O my soul. Praise His holy name with my inmost being
