The Devotional to End All Devotionals

DAY 9 OF 40

As we will discuss in depth later in this study, the body of Christ is made up of all Christians everywhere. Together, we are the global church that Jesus refers to in scripture. However, because we are so spread out, it is impossible for all of us to get together in one place and create the kind of tight-knit community God intended, so we meet in smaller groups in the form of local church bodies.

Because God intends for us to function as a whole, participation in the local church body is a spiritual discipline essential to the spiritual growth of all believers. God takes your responsibility to your local church body very seriously, and so should you.

Discipleship is the spiritual training of one Christian by another. Because it can be a very beneficial part of both Christians’ spiritual growth process, everyone should have a spiritual mentor, and everyone should mentor someone else. Those who participate in a local church body find it much easier to do so.

The last of today’s passages was written by the apostle Paul to Timothy, the young man he mentored.

Use the God Follower method to study today’s passages.

  1. What does this passage tell me about God?

  2. What does this passage tell me about being a follower of God?

Thank God for the support system that is His church.
