The Devotional to End All Devotionals

DAY 39 OF 40

God loves us. He sent Jesus to die for us. He adopts those who accept His forgiveness for sin by putting their faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection as His own, but this life is not about us. It’s about Him.

Ultimately, God did what He did to demonstrate His character so others would recognize His divine perfection and praise Him for it. He did and does everything for His own glory, or recognition, and rightly so. He’s God! For another to seek the glory He deserves would be vain, but God is actually perfect.

Likewise, Jesus did what He did for God’s glory. Oh, Jesus loves us. He proved it before He died and by dying for our sin on the cross, but ultimately, He did it to reveal God’s character and hold Him up as a God worth our complete submission and obedience, even unto death. Had God made another way for us to be saved, Jesus would have gladly bowed out, but God didn’t. To honor His Father, Jesus did what God told Him to do. As a result, we understand God’s character and are inspired to worship Him.

As followers of Jesus, we must do no less than Jesus did. Rather than asking God to serve us, we must always be looking to serve Him and direct the attention of others to His divine perfection. We glorify God when we accept His salvation through the Gospel, illustrate that Gospel by loving others as He does, and proving it true by letting the Holy Spirit transform us into the image of Jesus. When we do, those around us catch a glimpse of God’s character and are inspired to praise Him for it.

Thank God for His divine perfection and a compass of purpose by which to navigate your life.
