Untouchable: Unraveling The Myth That You're Too Faithful To Fall

DAY 4 OF 7

Day 4: The Death of the Myth, Part 1

Weakness plagues us all, heroes and villains alike. Achilles and his heel. Superman and kryptonite. Gollum and the golden ring. Green Lantern and the color yellow (yes, that’s legit). Lord Voldemort and his Horcruxes. In the fictional world, no amount of power can free one up from a weakness.

If weakness is evident in a world of make believe where anything is possible, we certainly cannot be exempt from an Achilles’ heel. Every man, woman and child has a weakness because none of us are immortal or perfect. Weakness is a natural part of humanity; it plagues us all. But this doesn’t mean it has to be a bad thing. In fact, if addressed and brought to the surface to be dealt with, weakness can be a great conduit for growth. It’s when weakness is kept in the shadows and buried in the recesses of our soul that it becomes dangerous.

Peter had a hard time admitting weakness, remember? He couldn’t accept that he would let Jesus down. Yet the truth is—and what many don’t realize—is that weakness opens the door to preparation. When weakness can be addressed, we are allowed the freedom to manage it properly. We flourish in life when we admit weakness. If Peter had been willing to admit weakness, he could have prepared for what would come later that day.

Are you in a place where you can admit weakness? Are you willing to be open to the possibility that by doing so you are actually being strong? There must be a shift in your mindset that admitting weakness is strength. I know from experience that it’s not easy but one of the most important things I learned in my moral failure is that admitting weakness is necessary to a flourishing life.

By admitting weakness, you start leaving room to prepare for what may come. You can see potential pitfalls in your lane and prepare to avoid them. Without the ability to admit weakness—to see those potential pitfalls—you’re unable to guard against those things that will potentially be a downfall.

The first step in combatting or guarding against the untouchable myth is to admit weakness. What are those sins on your untouchable list? Although you might believe that “you’ll never,” they actually become areas of weakness.

When you can admit weakness, it allows you to prepare for whatever may come your way. When you have this mindset, you can take hold of the tools needed to face temptation. You can see your need for help and plan ahead for it. Most importantly, you allow room for God’s strength to show up! This is a strong foundation for overcoming an untouchable mindset.
