A Life Of Glory

DAY 9 OF 10

The Two Pillars - Worship and Prayer

We have now been together discussing and experiencing the Spiritual Life for the last 8 weeks. We have been through glory, holiness, sin, grace and triumph. We have also explored the sin-breaking process of Romans 6-8 that leads us to victorious living in Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. So, knowing all of this, how do we nurture our on-going Spiritual Life? God again provides the answer - we nurture our Spiritual Life through the two “pillars” of worship and prayer. Why are these two “pillars” so important? Let’s find out.

When the Bible speaks of worship we understand several things. First, worship is about God and our giving to Him. It is the controlling attitude of the Christian life. The key element of worship is the idea of remembrance - asking God to remember His promises and His faithfulness to keep those promises. It is also a celebration of the relationship we have with God through Christ and to rejoice in that relationship. Finally, it is a coming together of believers to say “YES’ to God – that we desire to be part of the work of God and His kingdom on earth.

Prayer also reminds us that it is about God, but it is asking God to give to us. It is the active part of the Christian life that is characterized by the believer asking God to do what He has promised to do – to manifest Himself in human affairs and to act on behalf of His good purposes. We pray individually for spiritual development, forgiveness, protection and for communion with God. We also pray together for unity in the church, unity in the body of Christ, guidance and direction, and His intervention in our church, our community and the world.

We are the body of Christ – that beautiful creation that reflects the body of Christ made more beautiful because we have fellowship with God through worship and prayer. At the core of our Spiritual Life is the unbroken fellowship with the living God. Worship and prayer are the two pillars upon which that fellowship rests.

Two questions: How do I celebrate God’s faithfulness? How do I say yes to the work of God in the world?
