A Life Of Glory

DAY 4 OF 10

Grace Alone

In order to manifest God’s glory, also known as our purpose, we must conform to His holy character. However, our sin makes us unable to do this and requires God’s intervention of righteous judgement on our sin. Although God must judge our sin, He also provides the answer, His grace. Let’s look at this marvelous gift from God.

Grace is defined as that which is received without merit or effort. It has also been described as undeserved or unmerited favor. When this definition is attached to our salvation as Christians, we are able to see it as a gift from God that cannot be earned or bought. In fact, Paul explains in Ephesians that it is the basis of the work of Jesus Christ and not due to anything we have done to earn or deserve it. Now, taking all that we have looked at in the last three days, let’s dive deeper into the wonders of grace.

In the Word of God, we get a marvelous and succinct statement of grace related to our salvation. The writer of Hebrews states that by God’s will, we believers, have been sanctified, through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ, once and for all. This means that because of Christ’s work on the cross, believers in Jesus Christ have been made holy. We did not earn or deserve it. We can’t buy or repay it. God’s grace on display in His Son Jesus, results in our salvation and our position of holiness.

The writer of Hebrews goes on to say that by that same offering, He has made us holy forever. How long? Forever! In other words, through God’s grace we are becoming who we already are in Christ, which is holy! And because of Jesus, we are made holy and can strive to fulfill our purpose, which is to manifest the character of God to His creation. It is by grace alone that we are made holy and it is by grace alone that we move towards holiness.

Two questions: Do I recognize the magnificence of God’s grace in my life? How do I thank Him for blessing me so abundantly?
