A Moment With God

DAY 7 OF 61

SEEK THE LORD

For Bartemius, the blind man, it was a regular road, a regular journey, the same situation; nothing was different. But what changed was this. What he heard, he put into practice and didn’t let go.

In life, we know the Lord is sufficient to meet our needs. He is all-knowing, all-powerful and Almighty. He is the only One who can meet us at the point of our need and who can deliver us. In spite of hearing and knowing this, we travel through life with heaviness of heart, trying to solve our own problems.

Bartemius' need for deliverance was greater than the obstacles he faced. He never allowed words of discouragement to pull him down. So he cried out as he knew in his heart very firmly that his life could be different and this was the only chance for him. If he let go of this, there would be a long wait or he would miss the opportunity. He was not ashamed nor worried about being pushed aside by the people.

Let us be encouraged by Jesus’ response. Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. The Lord does not yield to pressure. He is moved by the cry of his children. Let us know that no matter how difficult it is, once we recognize the need, and once we know in our heart that our life can be different, when Christ intervenes, our situation will no longer be the same. We need not go through the same situation. We need not sit back and get used to it. Things can be different if only we can reach out to him. Sure enough the Lord reached out to Bartemius.

How did this happen?

When the Lord calls, we need to respond immediately to His call. The Bible says Bartemius threw his cloak and ran. He didn’t think of his limitation. We are called to have this simple faith. When we cry out to Jesus, He will listen to our call and respond. When He responds, let us also respond to His call.

A life of purpose begins with knowing our need, recognizing our need and reaching out to the Saviour to meet this need and to be delivered. Even though Bartemius was given an option to go the other way, He followed the Lord. When the Lord has done so much for us, let us not lead a life without Christ. Let us be grateful, include Him and follow Him. Looking at our lives, let others praise the Lord we worship. Let us not sit in the same place, let us not live in the same problem. The Lord can make a difference and we can make a difference to others.

May the Lord meet us and strengthen us, and put us on the path of deliverance, of grace, of impacting people. We need not live the same life. Our lives and situations can be different if only we would call upon Him and receive a touch from Him.

We can fear him, hear about him or sometimes know him and yet not reach out to Him.
