Love God Greatly-Fear & Anxiety

DAY 15 OF 41

READ: John 10:27-29, Luke 12:22-31

SOAP: John 10:29

Scripture uses the image of the shepherd and sheep to illustrate the Lord’s relationship between Himself and His people. This pastoral relationship is a beautiful analogy. Sheep naturally tend to herd together and run away in the presence of danger. Their flocking instinct risks them following a lead sheep into peril. Yet, due to this following instinct, they can learn to heed a shepherd.

The shepherd risks all to protect his flock. He understands their needs and jeopardizes his own welfare to assure their safety. He guards against their enemies and comforts them when they are afraid. The role of a shepherd is unyielding, unsafe, and unassuming.

Jesus willingly assumed His role as our shepherd in so that we would be assured of eternal life. Our role as His sheep is to be quiet enough to hear His voice and still enough to allow Him to lead.

In what area of your life are you more apt to follow the crowd than remaining still enough to allow God to be in control? How can following the crowd lead to more anxiety? Our Heavenly Father values us above all else. We can rest in His love. Try thinking of one way the Lord has provided for you in this last week. His faithfulness abounds.

Father God, thank You for Your care. Thank You for sending Your Son as to be my Good Shepherd. Show me areas in which I am trusting in myself or others instead of relying on You. Help me see the areas where You are currently providing in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
