1,000,000 Chapters Sample

We hope that you have had an incredible time reading about God’s story and His plan for the world. Before we jump into the next readings, take a moment to reflect on all that you’ve read so far. Ask yourself these questions:
1. How has God worked in my life while doing this reading plan?
2. What is something that I’ve learned from my reading that I didn’t know before starting this plan?
3. What do I hope to learn throughout the rest of this experience?
Today for our reading we start a letter (AKA epistle) that a guy named Paul wrote to the church in Corinth. We’ll learn more about Paul’s life when we read through the book of Acts (the story of how God established the early church and set it on its mission). What you need to know about Paul is that he once was a violent persecutor of those who followed Jesus, but he had an encounter with Jesus that turned him into a passionate follower.
He then dedicated his life to travel the whole world telling people about Jesus and forming communities of Jesus followers called churches. One of the places he went on his travels and planted a church was Corinth. It was a port city on the Mediterranean Sea and major city for trade in the Roman Empire. Corinth was also well known for its multitude of temples, worship to all sorts of gods, and its promiscuous behavior.
Your first reading today from the book of Acts chapter 18 will help give you the background on the church that Paul planted in Corinth. After Paul planted this church and continued on his travels, there were multiple problems that began happening in the community. The majority of these problems came down to the fact that the community was not behaving any different from the rest of the Corinthian culture.
Paul writes this letter to the church to identify some of these problems, redirect them back to the gospel of Jesus where they put their faith, and help them realize that they’re not really living out what they believe. He invites them to think about every area of life through the lens of the Gospel.
When you read Paul’s letter to the Corinthians keep in mind the immoral culture that existed around the church. Think about what implications this letter might have for the church in today’s world.

About this Plan

There is nothing that equips or invites the Church to live like Jesus more than reading the Bible. The pages of the Bible capture God’s story and lead those who dare to read it to live out His story for today. That’s why Parkview is making the challenge to our church to collectively read 1,000,000 chapters of the Bible together. Will you join us on the journey?
