DAY 1 OF 84

We are all telling a story with our lives. Some of us love the story we are telling, while others can barely tolerate the sad state of our lives. Regardless of where you may fall on this spectrum, we all desire to tell a better story. There is something unique to being human that draws us to good stories. They grab our hearts, capture our imagination, and invite us to live a different story after being pulled in.

This is why the Bible is such an important collection of writings. Through books, poems, and letters the Bible captures God’s incredible story. It’s a true story and when we read it and let it sink into our lives, we can’t help but be changed. That’s why we’re so glad to have you on this journey with us as a church to read 1,000,000 chapters of the Bible together. We believe that there is no greater way for us to be equipped to become more like Jesus and live out God’s story for today than reading the Bible. So, if you’re up for the journey and the story your life could tell … read on.

The plan is broken up into 5 parts over the course of the year. It is set up for you to read one, and occasionally two chapters per day. Sticking with this challenge will give you the opportunity to read through the whole New Testament and the Book of Psalms together as a church. Oh, and did I mention that it’s only 5-10 minutes of reading a day! If we all do our part and stick to our 5-10 minutes of daily reading we, as a church will read 1,000,000 chapters of the Bible.

To help what you read take root in your life, ask yourself these 6 simple questions after you’re done reading:

1. What stood out to me from what I read?

2. Was there anything confusing or troubling?

3. Did anything make me think differently about God?

4. Based on what I just read, am I making wise decisions?

5. How can I become more like Jesus today?

6. What is God asking me to do today?

Go ahead and take a screen shot of these questions and refer to them every day after you do your reading.

If you would like more resources on The Gospel of John or on how to read the Bible, visit http://parkviewchurch.com/1million

The first book of the Bible that you are reading on this plan is The Gospel of John. This is a book written by one of Jesus’ first followers named John, who later also became a leader in the early church. He was an eyewitness to the incredible life that Jesus lived, and he wanted to make sure that who Jesus is and all that He accomplished will always be preserved for the church. He explains the purpose of his writing toward the end of his book when he says, “But [this book was] written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”

Our prayer for you while you read this amazing story and incredible piece of writing is that you get to know Jesus on a deeper level and that your deepened faith in Him will give you the life that is only available through Him.

Enjoy the journey!

About this Plan

1,000,000 Chapters

There is nothing that equips or invites the Church to live like Jesus more than reading the Bible. The pages of the Bible capture God’s story and lead those who dare to read it to live out His story for today. That’s why Parkview is making the challenge to our church to collectively read 1,000,000 chapters of the Bible together.  Will you join us on the journey?
