Leadership Thinking

DAY 3 OF 10

Day 3: Staying Focused

Reflection:
After healing many people, Jesus was urged to stay and continue performing miracles. But He replied, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God… that is why I was sent.” Jesus stayed focused on His mission despite the pressure and expectations of others.

Leaders are often pulled in many directions. Urgent needs and the opinions of others can easily distract us from the core calling God has placed on our lives. Yet Jesus modelled the discipline of staying true to His purpose, even when good things competed for His attention.

As I wrestled with this passage, a question rose in my heart: “Am I clear about my purpose and the place God has called me to live it out?” Jesus made decisions out of clarity—He knew why He was sent, and that guided His yes and His no. For us, decision-making often becomes difficult because our sense of calling is blurry.

So let me ask: What was the last thing God spoke to you about your calling and purpose? If He hasn’t spoken anything new since then, chances are His direction for you has not changed. Clarity often comes not through constant new revelations but through remaining faithful to what God already said.

As leaders, we must continually return to this question: What has God sent me to do? When we keep our eyes fixed on that, we lead with clarity, conviction, and faithfulness.

5 Reflection Questions:

  1. Why do you think people wanted Jesus to stay and keep healing?
  2. How did Jesus stay clear on His mission?
  3. What distractions most often pull you away from your leadership calling?
  4. How do you discern between urgent demands and your true purpose?
  5. What practices help you stay focused on what God has sent you to do?

Application Question:
👉 What is one distraction you need to set aside this week to stay focused on your calling?

Prayer Prompt:
“Lord, help me to lead with focus and clarity. Keep me from distractions and remind me daily of Your calling.”
