Leadership Thinking

DAY 6 OF 10

Day 6: Pointing Leaders to Christ

Reflection:
Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 2:1–2 that when he came to the church, he did not rely on eloquence or human wisdom but resolved to know nothing except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. This shows us that leadership is never about impressing others with our skills or drawing attention to ourselves—it’s about pointing people to the cross.

Colossians 1:28 takes this further: “He is the one we proclaim… so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.” The true goal of leadership is not just gathering followers, but helping people grow into Christlikeness. Our leadership succeeds when others are not shaped into our image, but into His.

Finally, in 2 Corinthians 4:5 Paul declares, “What we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.” This frames leadership as servanthood. We are not the message—Jesus is. Our lives and leadership are meant to serve others so that He becomes greater in their eyes.

As leaders, there will always be the temptation to make ministry about us—our influence, our reputation, or our legacy. But Scripture calls us back to this simple truth: we are signposts, not destinations. Leadership worth following always points people to Jesus, never to ourselves.

5 Reflection Questions:

  1. Why did Paul emphasise preaching Christ over eloquence?
  2. What happens when leaders point people to themselves instead of Christ?
  3. How can leaders guard against pride and self-promotion?
  4. What are practical ways to point those you lead toward Jesus?
  5. How does your leadership reflect the gospel more than your personality?

Application Question:
👉 This week, how can you intentionally shift attention from yourself and point people more clearly to Christ?

Prayer Prompt:
“Lord, let my leadership always direct people to You and not to me. May Christ be the center of all I do.”
