Leadership Thinking

DAY 2 OF 10

Day 2: Calling Out Leadership

Reflection:
Jesus spent the night in prayer before choosing His twelve apostles. This moment teaches us that leadership is not chosen lightly but discerned through prayer. Jesus intentionally called people, even with flaws, and invested in them so they could carry on His mission.

As leaders today, we are called to recognise, affirm, and encourage others into leadership. Often, people hesitate because they feel inadequate—just like Peter or Matthew might have. But leadership is not about perfection; it’s about being chosen and equipped by God. Part of our role is to call out and nurture the potential we see in others, trusting God’s wisdom to guide us.

Leaders come from disciples. As Steve Murrell and others have said, if you have a leadership problem, you actually have a discipleship problem. The leaders are already there; they simply need to be discipled, called out, and given room to grow. We don’t “adopt” ready-made leaders—we raise them. And it always begins in prayer.

5 Reflection Questions:

  1. Why do you think Jesus prayed before choosing His leaders?
  2. What does this teach us about calling out leaders today?
  3. Why is it important to recognise potential in people, even with flaws?
  4. Who in your circle might God be preparing for leadership?
  5. How can prayer shape the way you call out and affirm others?

Application Question:
👉 Who is one person you can encourage or affirm into leadership this week, and how will you do it?

Prayer Prompt:
“Lord, open my eyes to see the leaders You are raising up. Help me to affirm and encourage them in Your will.”

About this Plan

Leadership Thinking

In these ten days, you’ll discover the heart of godly leadership through prayer, focus, humility, and accountability. Each day explores the life and example of Jesus, Solomon, Paul, and others to show that true leadership begins in prayer, grows through obedience, and is sustained by serving others with integrity and dependence on God.
