Diḇre haYamim Aleph (1 Chronicles) 10:13-14

Thus Sha’ul died for his trespass which he had trespassed against יהוה, because he did not guard the Word of יהוה, and also for asking a medium for to make inquiry, and did not inquire of יהוה. So He put him to death, and turned the reign over to Dawiḏ son of Yishai.
