God is light. God is life. So what do people of light and life look like? That’s the question of 1 John. It was all the more important because some people claimed to be people of light and life but only deceived themselves and confused others in the process. John tells us people of life and light confess their sins and seek to walk in obedience. People in darkness and death deny their sins and seek to walk how they want. They claim to have fellowship with God and each other but do not. They claim they are without sin (1 John 1:8-10). They claim to have fellowship with God but walk in darkness (1 John ​1:6). They claim they know God but are disobedient (​1 John 2:4). And we’ll find out later that they claim they love God but hate other Christians (​1 John ​2:9; 4:20). How about you?
