The Spirit of Faith
Foundation text:
Supporting texts:
POINT 1:
THE FOUNDATION OF FAITH.
“I believed…” (pisteuō) means to have faith (in, upon, or with respect to, a
person or thing), (especially one’s spiritual well-being to Christ) to commit, trust.
a. Faith is not a feeling; it’s a conviction.
*Paul roots his confidence in belief, not emotion.
*Faith comes from hearing God and His Word.
*The “spirit of faith refers to a mindset and attitude formed by God’s truth.
b. Faith looks beyond the present.
Paul is surrounded by affliction, but his eyes are on eternity. Faith sees the
invisible.
Application:
Are you building your life on faith or feelings?
The spirit of faith is sustained by daily exposure to God’s Word.
POINT 2:
THE SOUND OF FAITH.
“…and so, I spoke.” To speak, utter words.
a. True faith cannot stay silent.

Faith leads to declaration: of the gospel, of trust, of God’s promises.
b. Speaking by faith in adversity.

Paul spoke the gospel despite persecution.
The context (vv. 7-12) shows death at work in him, but life in others because he kept teaching truth
c. Speak the truth, even when the culture is against it.

Faith causes us to speak truth in love, even when it’s unpopular.
Application:
What are you speaking—fear or faith?
How can your words reflect belief in God’s power and promises?
POINT 3:
THE SOURCE OF COURAGE.

“We also believe, and so we also speak.”
a. Paul speaks in unity: “we also.”

The same spirit of faith is not just for him; it’s for all believers.
Courage flows from confidence in the resurrection (v. 14).

“Knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also.” Resurrection hope makes us bold.

b. Faith fuels endurance and proclamation.
The outer man is wasting, but the inner man is renewed (v. 16).

Present troubles are light compared to eternal glory (v. 17).
Application:
-What gives you courage to keep going?
-Faith in the resurrection changes how we see hardship.
POINT 4:
THE GOAL OF FAITH.

Faith is not for self-glory, but for God’s glory and others’ good.
a. Verse 15 - “it is all for your sake…”

Paul endures and speaks so others might experience grace and give thanks to God.

b. Faith glorifies God.

When we believe and speak, God is magnified.
Our lives point to His power and goodness.
Application:
Who is being impacted by your faith?
Ask God to use your faith as a witness to others.
Closing Thought:
The world doesn’t just need silent believers. It needs faithful speakers. Will you
live with the spirit of faith?
Call to Action:
For believers: Strengthen your faith through the Word daily and share boldly.
For seekers: The first act of faith is to believe the gospel that Jesus died and rose
for you.
