As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains. “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.

Nobody knows the exact time of Christ’s return, but we know for a fact that the signs of the time will include hardships and tribulations. We need to be more vigilant, making firm our faith in Christ, and pursuing the accomplishment of the great commission to the best of our efforts, for the glory and honor of our God.

God wants to prepare us to thrive as we approach the time when Jesus will return. We do not have to fear the future, but we must not be surprised by it or unprepared to face it. God is able to bring us into our true destiny. The more we know and love Him, the greater our strength and hope.
There is nothing to be afraid of in your future. The decisions you make now can help you develop a lifestyle of living in the present that will protect you from worrying or letting distraction rule your thoughts. Learn to entrust yourself to God for a sure future!
The signs Jesus described as “birth pangs,” signal His impending return as they unfold and shape the direction of history. Like labor pains, with mounting strength and frequency, they both usher at the end of the age and more importantly, herald the birth of another age — a glorious era where the King of kings physically governs the world for which He died.
