Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives. His disciples came to him privately and said, “Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will signal your return and the end of the world?” Jesus told them, “Don’t let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come. “Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because you are my followers. And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. And many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people.

Nobody knows the exact time of Christ’s return, but we know for a fact that the signs of the time will include hardships and tribulations. We need to be more vigilant, making firm our faith in Christ, and pursuing the accomplishment of the great commission to the best of our efforts, for the glory and honor of our God.

God wants to prepare us to thrive as we approach the time when Jesus will return. We do not have to fear the future, but we must not be surprised by it or unprepared to face it. God is able to bring us into our true destiny. The more we know and love Him, the greater our strength and hope.
There is nothing to be afraid of in your future. The decisions you make now can help you develop a lifestyle of living in the present that will protect you from worrying or letting distraction rule your thoughts. Learn to entrust yourself to God for a sure future!
The signs Jesus described as “birth pangs,” signal His impending return as they unfold and shape the direction of history. Like labor pains, with mounting strength and frequency, they both usher at the end of the age and more importantly, herald the birth of another age — a glorious era where the King of kings physically governs the world for which He died.
