Titus 3
3
Submission to Governing Authorities
1 Keep reminding them to place themselves in submission to those who rule and to those in positions of authority, to obey their directives, to be prepared and ready for every kind of good work,
2 to speak slanderously about no one, to be peaceable and not quarrelsome, to show gentleness and courtesy, and to demonstrate complete considerateness toward all people.
The Grace of God and Good Works
3 For we ourselves were once characterized by foolishness, by disobedience, by being deceived, by being enslaved to a variety of cravings and pleasures, by spending our lives in malicious spite and envy, by being hateful and detestable, and by hating one another.
4 But when the kindness and the love for humanity that belong to God our Savior were made manifest,
5 He saved us, not on the basis of righteous deeds that we ourselves had performed, but in accordance with His own mercy, through the cleansing bath of regeneration and the renewing work of the Holy Spirit,
6 whom He poured out upon us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
7 so that, having been justified or declared righteous by His grace, we might become heirs who possess the confident expectation of eternal life.
8 This statement is worthy of trust, and concerning these truths, I want you to speak with strong emphasis, so that those who have placed their faith in God may be careful to apply themselves diligently to good works. These practices are excellent and beneficial for people.
Final Instructions and Greetings
9 But stay away from foolish controversies, genealogies, contentions, and quarrels concerning the Law, for they accomplish nothing useful and are worthless.
10 After giving a first and second warning to a person who causes divisions, have nothing more to do with him,
11 recognizing that such an individual has become twisted in character and continues in sin, standing condemned by his own judgment of himself.
12 When I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, do your utmost to come to me in Nicopolis, for I have made the decision to spend the winter season there.
13 Help Zenas the expert in law and Apollos on their journey, making sure they lack nothing they need.
14 And let our people also learn to commit themselves to good works that meet pressing needs, so that they will not live fruitless lives.
15 All those who are with me send their greetings to you. Give greetings to those who love us in the faith. May grace be with all of you.
