Ephesians 1

Apostolic Greeting
Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus through the sovereign will of God,
To God’s consecrated people living in Ephesus, those who remain steadfast in their union with Christ Jesus:
May grace or undeserved favor and peace be yours from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Ascription of Praise to God
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has lavished upon us every spiritual gift from the heavenly realm through our union with Christ.
He chose us to belong to Christ before the world was created, with the intention that we would live in holiness and without fault in His presence, motivated by love.
He determined beforehand that we would be brought into His family as His sons and daughters through Jesus Christ, fulfilling His own gracious intention and desire,
all for the purpose of bringing praise to His magnificent grace, which He has generously bestowed on us through His beloved Son.
Through Him we have been liberated through His sacrificial blood, receiving forgiveness for our violations of God’s Law, in keeping with the abundant wealth of His grace,
which He poured out upon us with complete wisdom and spiritual insight.
God revealed to us the hidden purpose of His will, in accordance with His gracious plan that He determined in Christ
to be carried out when the fullness of the appointed times unfolds—namely, to bring everything together under Christ’s headship—all things in heaven and all things on earth—yes, in Him alone.
In Christ we have also received our appointed inheritance, having been chosen beforehand according to the predetermined plan of the One who accomplishes all things in harmony with the decision of His will,
so that we who were the first to place our hope in Christ would live for the praise of His magnificent character.
In Him you also were included when you heard the message of truth—the good news of your salvation—and having placed your trust in Him, you were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit,
who serves as the down payment guaranteeing our inheritance until God fully redeems those who are His own possession, resulting in praise to His glory.
Pauline Prayer for the Gift of the Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation
Because of this, ever since I learned about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God’s people,
I have not stopped expressing gratitude for you, continually mentioning you in my prayers.
I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father who possesses all glory, would give you the Spirit who imparts wisdom and revelation, enabling you to know Him more fully.
I pray that the eyes of your heart would be flooded with light, so that you would understand the hope to which He has called you, the glorious wealth of the inheritance He has reserved for His people,
and the immeasurably great power available to us who believe, power that operates according to the working of His overwhelming might.
This is the same mighty strength He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from death and placed Him at His right hand in the heavenly realm,
positioning Him far above every authority and power and force and lordship, and above every title that can be given, not only in this present age but also in the age that is yet to come.
God has placed all things in subjection under His feet and appointed Him as supreme head over everything for the benefit of the church,
which is His body, the fullness of Him who completely fills everything in every way.
