Colossians 3

Raised with Christ

1 Therefore, since you have been raised to new life with Christ, direct your pursuit toward the things above, where Christ is, seated at God’s right hand.

2 Keep your minds focused on the things above, not on earthly matters.

3 For you have died, and your life is now concealed with Christ in God.

4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

New Life in Christ

5 Put to death, therefore, the earthly nature within you: sexual immorality, moral impurity, lustful passion, evil craving, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.

6 Because of these practices, God's wrath is coming upon those characterized by disobedience.

7 You once conducted yourselves in these ways when you were living in that manner.

8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things: anger, rage, malicious intent, slander, and obscene language from your mouth.

9 Do not lie to one another, since you have stripped off the old self along with its practices,

10 and have clothed yourselves with the new self that is being progressively renewed in knowledge according to the image of the One who created it.

11 In this new reality there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, or free person; rather, Christ is everything and is in everyone.

12 Therefore, clothe yourselves as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, with compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience,

13 bearing with one another and extending forgiveness to each other. If anyone has a grievance against another, just as the Lord forgave you, you must do the same.

14 And above all these qualities, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

15 Let the peace of Christ, to which you were indeed called as members of one body, govern your hearts; and cultivate gratitude.

16 Let the word of Christ dwell among you abundantly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing to God with thankfulness in your hearts.

17 And whatever you do, whether in word or action, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, expressing thanks to God the Father through Him.

Christian Relationships

18 Wives are to live in respectful submission to their husbands, as is appropriate for those who belong to the Lord.

19 Husbands are to love their wives and avoid harshness or bitterness toward them.

20 Children are to obey their parents in all things, since this delights the Lord.

21 Fathers must not embitter their children, or they will become discouraged.

22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in all matters—not only when they are watching, as those who seek to please people, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.

23 Whatever you do, work at it wholeheartedly, as serving the Lord rather than serving people,

24 knowing that you will receive an inheritance as your reward from the Lord. Continue serving the Lord Christ.

25 For the person who does wrong will be repaid for the wrong committed, and there is no partiality.
