1 Thessalonians 1

Apostolic Greeting

1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy,

To the church of believers in Thessalonica who are united in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:

May you experience grace or unmerited favor and peace.

Thanksgiving to God for the Thessalonians’ Exemplary Faith and Life

2 We give thanks to God constantly for every one of you, making mention of you in our prayers without ceasing,

3 continually bringing to remembrance before our God and Father the active deeds produced by your faith, the strenuous efforts motivated by your love, and the steadfast endurance inspired by your confident expectation in our Lord Jesus Christ.

4 We are certain, brothers and sisters who are dearly loved by God, that He has chosen you for salvation,

5 for the good news we proclaimed did not reach you through mere verbal communication alone, but came with divine enabling, with the presence and activity of the Holy Spirit, and with complete assurance of its truth—just as you witnessed the manner of life we lived among you for your spiritual benefit.

6 And you followed our example and the Lord's pattern when you welcomed the word amid intense suffering, yet with gladness that came from the Holy Spirit,

7 so that you became an example worth following for all who trust in Christ throughout the regions of Macedonia and Achaia.

8 For the message about the Lord has sounded forth from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but the news of your trust in God has spread to every place, so that we have no need to speak about it ourselves.

9 For the people in those regions continue to tell the story of what kind of welcome you gave us, and how you abandoned your idols and turned to the one true God, to serve the God who is alive and real,

10 and to await with eager anticipation the return of His Son from the heavenly realm, the One whom He raised from death—Jesus, who rescues us from the divine judgment that is coming.
