Romans 12
12
A Living and Holy Sacrifice
1 Therefore, I exhort you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your reasonable* worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, with the intention of testing* what is the good and well-pleasing and perfect will of God.
Gifts According to God’s Grace
3 For I say, by the grace* which was given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than what he ought to think, but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has apportioned to each one a measure of faith. 4 For just as we have many members in one body, and all the members do not have the same function, 5 likewise we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6 But having different gifts in accordance with the grace given to us, let us use them effectively:* if prophecy, according to the proportion of our* faith; 7 if service, in our* serving; or the one who teaches, in his* teaching; 8 or the one who exhorts, in his* exhortation; the one who gives, with generosity; the one who leads, with diligence; the one who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
Instructions for Christian Living
9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Detest what is evil; hold on tightly to what is good.* 10 In regard to brotherly love, be warmly affectionate to one another; in regard to honour, giving preference to one another; 11 not slacking in diligence; fervent* in the Spirit; serving the Lord. 12 As to hope, rejoicing; as to affliction, enduring; as to prayer, persisting; 13 contributing to the needs of the saints; practising hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you;* bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. 16 Thinking the same way towards one another; do not think arrogantly,* but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own conceit.* 17 Repay no one evil for evil. Give thought to what is right in the sight of all men.** 18 If possible, as far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but give place to the wrath,* for it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”* 20 But “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for by doing this, you will heap up coals of fire on his head.”* 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
