John 21

21
Jesus Appears to the Seven Disciples
1 After these things, Jesus manifested Himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias. Now He manifested Himself in this way: 2 Simon Peter, Thomas who was called Didymus, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons* of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together. 3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We also are coming with you.” They went out and* got into the boat, but during that night they caught nothing.
4 Now when the early morning had already come, Jesus stood on the beach; however, the disciples did not realise that it was Jesus. 5 So Jesus called to them, “Children, you do not have any fish to eat, do you?” They answered Him, “No.” 6 And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, but could no longer pull it in, because of the large number of fish. 7 Then that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he wrapped his outer garment (for he was stripped for work*) and threw himself into the sea. 8 But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net teeming with fish,* for they were not far from the land, but approximately two hundred cubits distant.
9 So when they got out on the land, they saw a fire of burning coals lying there, and a fish lying on it, and bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish which you have recently caught.” 11 So Simon Peter went up and pulled the net to the shore, full of large fish—one hundred and fifty-three. And although there were so many, the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come, have breakfast.” None of the disciples ventured to ask Him, “Who are You?” because they knew that it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish. 14 This was now the third time Jesus was manifested to the disciples after He had been raised from the dead.
Jesus and Peter
15 Now when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, * do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord, You know that I regard You with affection.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.” 16 He said to him again, for a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord, You know that I regard You with affection.” He said to him, “Shepherd My sheep.” 17 He said to him for the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you regard Me with affection?” Peter was distressed, because He said to him the third time, “Do you regard Me with affection?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I regard You with affection.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep. 18 Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and bring you where you do not want to go.” 19 Now He said this, indicating by what kind of death he would glorify God. And having said this, He said to him, “Follow Me!”
Jesus and the Beloved Disciple
20 Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them*—he* who also had leaned back on His chest at the supper and said, “Lord, who is it that is betraying You?” 21 So, having seen him, Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, but what about this one?” 22 Jesus said to him, “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!” 23 So this saying spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you?” 24 This is the disciple who is giving testimony about these things, and the one who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true.
25 Now there are also many other things that Jesus did, which, if they were written down one after the other, I think the world itself would not even have enough space for the books that would be written.***
