John 2

The Wedding in Cana of Galilee
1 Now on the third day, there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 And Jesus and His disciples were also invited to the wedding. 3 And when the wine was exhausted, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus said to her, “What is that to Me and to you, woman? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever He says to you.”
6 Now there were six stone water jars standing in that place, according to the purification rites of the Jews, each containing twenty or thirty gallons.* 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the water jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He said to them, “Now draw out some water* and carry it to the master of the feast. So they carried it. 9 And when the master of the feast tasted the water that had become wine and did not know where it was from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first, and when they have drunk freely, that which is inferior. But* you have reserved the good wine until now.” 11 This, the beginning of His signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.
12 After this, He went down to Capernaum, with His mother and His brothers and His disciples, and they stayed in that place for a few days.*
The Cleansing of the Temple
Μatt. 21:12-13; Mk. 11:15-17; Lk. 19:45-46
13 Now the Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 And He found in the temple* those selling oxen and sheep and doves, as well as the money changers who were seated. 15 And having made a whip of cords, He expelled them all from the temple—both the sheep and the oxen—and He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 And to those selling doves, He said, “Take away these things from this place! Do not make My Father’s house a commercial centre!” 17 His disciples recollected that it is written: “The zeal for Your house will consume Me.”*
18 So the Jews responded and said to Him, “What sign can you show us to validate these actions You are performing?” 19 Jesus replied and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days, I will raise it!” 20 The Jews then said, “This temple was constructed for forty-six years, and will You raise it in three days?” 21 But He was speaking concerning the temple of His body. 22 When, therefore, He was raised from the dead, His disciples recollected that He had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the statement that Jesus had spoken.
Jesus Does Not Entrust Himself to Men
23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name, having seen His signs which He was performing. 24 But Jesus, from His perspective,* was not entrusting Himself to them, because He knew all people, 25 and because He had no need for anyone to testify concerning man,* for He Himself knew what was in man.
