Hebrews 6

6
Warning Against Falling Away
1 Therefore, leaving behind the elementary* teaching about Christ,* let us press on to perfection,* not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith in God, 2 of instruction about washings and laying on of hands, and the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3 And this we will do,* if God allows. 4 For it is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit,* 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then* have fallen away, to renew them again to repentance, since they are crucifying again the Son of God to themselves and exposing Him to public shame. 7 For land that absorbs the rain which often falls on it, and produces vegetation beneficial to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God. 8 But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, whose end is to be burned.*
9 But, beloved,* we are convinced of better things concerning you, and things which belong to salvation, even though we are speaking in this manner. 10 For God is not unjust to forget your work and* the love which you have shown for His name, in having served the saints and in continuing to serve them.* 11 And we desire each of you to show the same earnestness until the end, so that you may realise the full assurance of your hope,* 12 in order that you may not become sluggish, but imitators of those who, through faith and patience, inherit the promises.
The Unchangeableness of God’s Promise
13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, since He had no one greater to swear by, He swore by Himself, 14 saying, “Certainly, I will greatly bless you and I will greatly multiply you.”* 15 And so, having waited patiently, he obtained the promise. 16 For men swear by one greater than themselves, and an oath, as confirmation, is the end of all dispute. 17 In the same way* God, wanting even more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, confirmed it with an oath, 18 so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us. 19 This hope* we have as an anchor of the soul, both secure and sure, and one which enters within* the veil, 20 where Jesus has entered as forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
