2 Thessalonians 2
2
The Revelation of the Man of Lawlessness
1 Now we ask you, brothers, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, 2 that you not be quickly shaken from your composure nor be alarmed, either by a spirit, or a spoken* word, or a written correspondence purported to be from us,* claiming that* the day of the Lord has arrived. 3 Do not let anyone deceive you in any way, because that day will not come* unless the apostasy comes first and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4 the one who opposes and exalts himself over every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, presenting himself as God.
5 Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was saying these things to you? 6 And you know that which is restraining him now, so that he might be revealed in his own time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is at work already; only the One who now restrains will do so* until He is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus* will eliminate with the breath of His mouth, and bring to nothing by the appearance of His coming, 9 whose arrival corresponds with the working of Satan with all power and signs and false wonders, 10 and with every deception of unrighteousness for those who are perishing, because they did not accept the love of the truth, so that they would be saved. 11 And for this reason, God sends them a delusion-causing power,** so that they will believe the lie, 12 in order that all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but delighted in unrighteousness.
Giving Thanks to God
13 But we ought to give thanks to God always concerning you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, 14 for which purpose He called you through our gospel, for obtaining the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Encouragement to Stand Resolute
15 So then, brothers, stand resolute and firmly uphold the traditions which you were taught, whether by spoken word or by written correspondence from us.
Pauline Prayer
16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, the One who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, 17 encourage and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.*
