2 Corinthians 5

5
Our Eternal Building From God
1 For we know that if our earthly house, the tent, is disintegrated, we have a building from God, a house made without hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For indeed, in this we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling which is from heaven; 3 since, in fact, once we are clothed, we will not be found naked. 4 For indeed, while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened, because we do not desire to be unclothed but to be clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
5 Now the One who has prepared us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the first instalment* of the Spirit.
6 Therefore, being always courageous, and knowing that while we are home in the body, we are away from the Lord— 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight— 8 so we are courageous and prefer rather to be away from the body and to be at home with the Lord. 9 Therefore, we also earnestly strive to be pleasing to Him, whether at home or away from home. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for the things done* through the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
The Ministry of Reconciliation
11 Therefore, since we know the fear of the Lord, we persuade men,* but we are made manifest to God, and I hope to be made manifest also in your consciences. 12 We are not commending ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to boast* on our behalf, so that you may have a response* for those who boast in appearance but not in heart. 13 For if we are beside ourselves, it is to God; if we are of sound mind, it is to you. 14 For the love of Christ compels* us, because we have concluded this: that One died for all; consequently, all died; 15 and He died for all, so that those who live would no longer live for themselves, but for the One who died for them and was raised.
16 Therefore, from now on, we know no one according to the flesh,* even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh;* yet now we no longer know Him in this way. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away; behold, new things have come into existence. 18 And all things are from God, the One who reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and who gave us the ministry of reconciliation— 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and committing to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as if God were entreating you through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 He made the One who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
