1 Timothy 2

2
Praying for All People
1 Therefore, I urge first of all that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all those in authority, so that we may live a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable before God our Saviour, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who offered Himself as a ransom for all—the testimony borne* at the proper time,* 7 for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am speaking the truth,* I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
Instructions for Christian Men and Women
8 Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, raising holy hands without anger and dispute; 9 likewise, also, women should adorn themselves in proper attire, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold jewelry or pearls or expensive clothing, 10 but with what is fitting for women who profess godliness—with good deeds. 11 Let a woman learn in quietness with all submission. 12 But I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man, but to remain in quietness.* 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve, 14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman, having been completely deceived, fell into transgression. 15 But she* will be rescued through childbearing, if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.
Notes
6 The verb borne is supplied to the text on contextual considerations for the sake of clarity
6 Greek proper times
7 Some ancient manuscripts insert the prepositional phrase in Christ at this point
12 Greek but to be in quietness
15 The pronoun shift from she to they is a notable feature in Koine Greek, with s he typically referring to Eve specifically, while they is employed to denote women in the collective sense
