Jesus Appears to the Seven Disciples
After these resurrection appearances, Jesus manifested Himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias, the Sea of Galilee. Now He manifested Himself in this way:
Simon Peter, Thomas who was called Didymus, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee (James and John), and two others of His disciples were together.
Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing to return to my former occupation." They said to him, "We also are coming with you." They went out and got into the boat, but during that entire night they caught nothing despite their efforts.
Now when the early morning had already come at dawn, Jesus stood on the beach. However, the disciples did not realise that it was Jesus from a distance.
So Jesus called to them, "Children, you do not have any fish to eat, do you?" They answered Him, "No, we have caught nothing."
He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some fish." So they cast it as instructed, but could no longer pull it in, because of the large number of fish filling it.
Then that disciple whom Jesus loved, John, said to Peter with recognition, "It is the Lord!" So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he wrapped his outer garment around himself (for he was stripped for work and lightly clothed) and threw himself into the sea to swim to Jesus.
But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net teeming with fish, for they were not far from the land, but approximately two hundred cubits distant, about a hundred yards.
So when they got out on the land, they saw a fire of burning coals lying there, and a fish lying on it cooking, and bread. Jesus had prepared breakfast.
Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish which you have recently caught to add to the meal."
So Simon Peter went up and pulled the net to the shore, full of large fish—one hundred and fifty-three in number. And although there were so many, the net was not torn, demonstrating a miracle.
Jesus said to them, "Come, have breakfast with Me." None of the disciples ventured to ask Him, "Who are You?" because they knew with certainty that it was the Lord.
Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish, serving them as He had done before.
This was now the third time Jesus was manifested to the disciples as a group after He had been raised from the dead.
Jesus and Peter
Now when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me with supreme devotion more than these?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord, You know that I regard You with affection." Jesus said to him, "Feed My lambs."
He said to him again, for a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me with supreme devotion?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord, You know that I regard You with affection." Jesus said to him, "Shepherd My sheep."
He said to him for the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you regard Me with affection?" Peter was distressed and grieved, because He said to him the third time, "Do you regard Me with affection?" He said to Him, "Lord, You know all things. You know everything about me. You know that I regard You with affection." Jesus said to him, "Feed My sheep.
I tell you with absolute certainty and truth, when you were younger, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted in freedom. But when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and bring you where you do not want to go."
Now He said this, indicating by what kind of death Peter would glorify God. Having said this, He said to him, "Follow Me as My disciple!"
Jesus and the Beloved Disciple
Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved, John, following them—he who also had leaned back on His chest at the supper and said, "Lord, who is it that is betraying You?"
So, having seen him, Peter said to Jesus with curiosity, "Lord, but what about this one?”
Jesus said to him, "If I want him to remain until I come, what concern is it of yours? You follow Me and focus on your own calling!"
So this saying spread among the brothers, the believers, that this disciple would not die before Jesus returned. But Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but rather, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you?"
This is the disciple who is giving testimony about these things, and the one who has written these things in this Gospel, and we know that his testimony is true and reliable.
Now there are also many other things that Jesus did during His ministry, which, if they were written down one after the other in detail, I think the world itself would not even have enough space for the books that would be written to contain them all.
