Psalms 51

51
PSALM FIFTY-ONE
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.
1Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the greatness of Your compassion, blot out my transgressions. #Isa. 43:25; Col. 2:14
2Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin, #1 John 1:7; Heb. 9:14
3For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.
4Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done evil in Your sight, that You might be justified when You speak and be in the right when You judge. #2 Sam. 12:13; Luke 15:21; Rom. 3:4
5Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. #Job 14:4
6Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts; and in the hidden part You shall make me to know wisdom.
7Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. #Lev. 14:4; Isa. 1:18; Heb. 9:19
8Make me to hear joy and gladness that the bones which You have broken may rejoice. #Mat. 5:4
9Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. #Jer. 16:17
10Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. #Ezek. 18:31; Acts 15:19
11Cast me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. #Gen. 4:14; Luke 11:13; Eph. 4:30
12Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and let Your free spirit uphold me. #2 Cor. 3:17
13Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners shall turn back to You.
14Deliver me from the guilt of shedding blood, O God, O God of my salvation, then my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness. #2 Sam. 12:9; Psa. 35:28
15O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare Your praise,
16For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not take pleasure in burnt offering. #1 Sam. 15:22; Isa. 1:11; Jer. 7:22; Psa. 40:6
17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. #Isa. 57:15, 66:2; Psa. 34:18
18Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion; build the walls of Jerusalem.
19Then shall You be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering; then they shall offer bulls upon Your altar. #Mal. 3:3; Psa. 4:5
